They're both fun, Diablo 3 is a much more simple game and gets challenging when you hit high tier greater rifts I'm end game. Diablo 2 has more build diversity and item diversity. In fact, it's entire end game is getting top level gear. There isn't much to do but farm gear beyond beating the game on hell difficulty.
In Diablo 3, the end game is farming bosses that you've already defeated until you get the items to farm them even faster. So in that sense, it doesn't have an end game like those games do and you might be disappointed. 5. Aesthetics. Diablo 2 and even Diablo 1 had a much darker and horrific aesthetic than Diablo 3.
Diablo 3 is hella fun, and this comes from a player who resisted the game for years because I was a day one Diablo 2 fan. 7. Well it’s not. Diablo 2 has 3 difficulties (normal, nightmare, hell), which are all the same story content and quests, just with tougher monsters and better loot. The progression to end game involves essentially beating the campaign 3 times. Diablo 3 has a campaign mode, and an adventure mode. Campaign takes you through the story of D3.

Yes, Diablo 3 is very easy until you have hit 60 the first time and can crank it up to Torment. However, I advise against playing on Torment right away if you play hardcore. However, this is primarily opinion based since others might see it as difficult. – user28015. Feb 17, 2015 at 15:05.
Diablo III is far easier to get into and master than Diablo II. Gear is more accessible and easier to evaluate when it comes on whether or not to upgrade. The skill system is far more forgiving. Combat is much smoother when you don't have to worry about potion panic and have life globes to sustain you during battles.
